Advanced Dog Training Melbourne: Canine All Stars

Canine All Starts is an 8 week advanced dog training course for dogs 6 months and older, held in Brunswick West and Northcote. Designed for dogs that have their real-life obedience foundations firmly in place. This is where training goes deep into high level obedience, scent work, agility, trick training, and competition preparation.

If you're on this page, chances are you're a complete dog nerd now. No judgement, I am too. How fun is training now that you've got the hang of it? Canine All Stars is an ongoing, open-ended course for those of us that want to go beyond the basics of dog training.
We work on higher levels of obedience, trick training, and the skills needed to get ready for trials and competition. Experiment with different kinds of dog sports to see what might be a fit for you and your dog.

Included in the Course

  • Northside Dog Training showbag

  • Access to online community and weekly Zoom sessions

  • Small classes for personalised advice

What You'll Work On

Canine All Stars covers the skills that separate a well-trained dog from a truly exceptional one.

  • High level obedience: precision, duration, distance, and distraction proofing

  • Scent work: nose work foundations, search patterns, and odour discrimination

  • Agility foundations: body awareness, obstacle introduction, and basic sequencing

  • Trick training: complex behaviours and performance-ready skills

  • Competition preparation: trialling structure, ring procedure, and handling skills

  • Handler development: timing, movement, and reading your dog under pressure

A Taste of Dog Sports

One of the most valuable parts of Canine All Stars is the chance to try different dog sports before committing to one. Not every dog is a natural agility dog. Not every owner wants to run courses. This course gives you a structured introduction to several disciplines.

Scent Work

Dogs use their nose to locate a specific odour among distractions. This is a mentally exhausting and deeply satisfying activity for most dogs. This one of the fastest-growing dog sports in Australia and highly accessible for dogs of all ages and physical abilities.

Agility Foundations

Body awareness work, obstacle introduction, and basic sequencing. Whether you want to compete or just give your dog an incredibly physical and mental workout, agility foundations are useful at every level.

Trick Training

Far more than entertainment. Complex tricks build focus, physical coordination, problem-solving, and the kind of enthusiasm for training that makes everything else easier. Many competition skills begin as trick foundations.

Why Advanced Training Changes Your Dog (and You)

When you get a taste of what it's like to see your dog succeed in training, having people remark on how well behaved they are and notice how much easier your dog is to handle when they are engaged with you, it's hard to stop at the basics.

Obedience can be seen as a bit of a dirty word, with some people thinking it will turn their dog into a "robot," but the truth is quite the opposite. Training provides mental and physical enrichment for our dogs, and challenges us as handlers to refine our timing, movement and understanding of training theory. Training sessions can be more mentally and physically enriching for our dogs than going for a walk when done the right way, giving us more flexibility in the way we incorporate pet ownership into other aspects of our lives.

The Canine All Stars course allows you to go deeper into obedience training and get a taste of other dog sports like scent work, agility and trick training. We can help you prepare to take your skills to competition, or you can simply learn for the joy of the process.

Class sizes are kept intentionally small to ensure we can provide customised advice to you and your dog.
